School/Sports Physical Exam
It is important for kids to get a sports physical at the beginning of their sports season. It helps you determine whether it is safe for your kid to participate in certain sport. It can also help your kid to find out about and deal with health problems that might interfere with their participation in a sport.
There are two main parts of Sports Exam –
1) Medical History
• Illness that kid had when there were younger or may have now, such as asthma or epilepsy
• Previous hospitalization or surgeries
• Allergies
• Past injuries such as bone fracture
• Whether the child has ever passed out, felt dizzy, had chest pain, or had trouble breathing during exercise
• Any prescribed medication
2) Physical Exam
• Record of height and weight
• To check blood pressure and pulse
• Test the child’s vision
• Check the heart, lungs, abdomen, ears, nose and throat
• Evaluation of your child’s posture, joints, strength, and flexibility
